Ball
Ground, which is located approximately 50 miles north of Atlanta in Cherokee County,
is a charming North Georgia community of almost 1,000 residents. The
town is lies at the base of the lower Appalachian foothills and offers
pristine woodlands, beautiful lakes and convenient access to Atlanta.
Served by excellent Interstate roadways, the Georgia Northeastern
Railroad, and the Cherokee County Airport, businesses have convenient
and efficient access to multiple transport modes.
The
area was originally inhabited by Cherokee Indians, who were forced into
the western frontier as settlers began to claim the land between 1790
and 1830. Before the railroad came through in 1882, Ball Ground was
almost purely agricultural, consisting of a few dwellings and 2 country
stores. The next major event that helped shape Ball Ground was the
result of the marble-working industry. Today, Ball Ground is growing as
businesses and homeowners are pushing into the North Georgia mountains
along the I-575 corridor. The community boasts a number of new
subdivisions and light industry. According to the 2005 census data,
Cherokee county ranked the fifth fastest growing counties in Georgia. The
Ball Ground area offers plenty of things to see and do including
tasting local wines at Sharp Mountain Vineyards & Winery, taking a
drive to Burnt Mountain overlook for some breathtaking views of the
